If cleansing clears a stone, charging is said to fill it again. The two aren't always separate acts: several of the same methods do both. Moonlight and sunlight both cleanse and charge. Selenite does both.
Moonlight and Sunlight
Leave a stone on a windowsill overnight, or give it a few hours of daylight. Both are safe, simple, and require nothing more than remembering to do it. If you're charging a stone that's prone to fading in sunlight, moonlight is the safer default.
Selenite
A selenite plate or wand is said to charge whatever's placed on it, the same property that makes it useful for cleansing. One piece of selenite can genuinely do both jobs for your whole collection.
Clear Quartz Clusters
A clear quartz cluster is said to charge whatever sits on it, in the same way it's said to amplify the energy of other stones generally. Many people keep one on a shelf specifically for this.
Intention
The other kind of charging doesn't involve light or another stone at all. Nothing elaborate is needed here. Hold the stone and state plainly, out loud or silently, what you want it to hold for you. A sentence said quietly is enough, and many people find this is the part that matters most, whatever they believe about the stone itself.
This is also the moment worth returning to whenever you wear a piece of jewellery chosen for what it means. A stone worn every day doesn't need charging every day, but coming back to the original intention now and then keeps the piece from becoming just decoration.
